The Little Prince is one of my favourite heroes and still warms my heart - so I'm happy to share his good advice:
1. Whether it's a house, the stars or the desert, what makes them beautiful is invisible.
2. If you tame me, it will make my life miserable. I'd hear the sound of footsteps, different from the sound of all other footsteps. The other steps would make me want to hide underground. Yours, like music, would slip out of my hole
3. I should have judged him by his actions, not his words. She enticed me with her perfume, she overwhelmed me with her glow. (...) Behind her poor little deceits I should have sensed her tender love. All flowers are contradictions. But I was much too young to love.
4. I have to put up with two or three caterpillars if I want to meet butterflies.
5. 'In your country,' said the little prince, 'people grow five thousand roses in one garden. Yet they never find what they are looking for.
- "They won't find it," I said.
- But they could find it in a single rose or a sip of water...
- "They certainly could," I said.
- "But the eye is blind," added the little prince.
6. Anyone who allows him to be tamed risks making him cry.
7. The time you wasted on your rose: that's what makes your rose so important.
8. If someone loves a flower that exists only once in a million stars: that's enough to make him happy when he looks at the stars.
9. At the moment, you are nothing to me but a little boy like hundreds and hundreds of thousands of others. And I don't need you. Just like you don't need me. To you, I'm just another fox like the rest of the hundred and hundreds of thousands. But if you tame me, we'll need each other. You'll be the only one for me in the world. And I'll be the only one for you...
10. It would have been better if you'd come at the same time (...) If you arrive, say, at four in the afternoon, I start to be happy at three o'clock. As time goes on, I get happier. At four o'clock I am already nervous and anxious; I discover the price of happiness! But if you come at an unspecified time, at any time, I'll never know at what hour to dress my heart in a festive dress...
