Our skin type changes with the seasons...

Our skin type changes not only with age and skincare habits, but also with the seasons. So pay extra attention to your skin in winter!

  • During the winter, the skin produces less sebum and sebum than usual, so oily, shiny skin in the summer usually normalises, while 'normal' and drier skin needs a more oily cream.
  • If you take care at night, and use a rich skin-zoning oil serum to replenish the deep dermal layer of the skin. This will eliminate deep-layer dehydration on your face and make your skin more tolerant of the cold during the day.
  • When it's cold outside, choose a rich oil-rich cream to protect your skin from the biting winter chill and freezing winds, as oils and waxes rich in saturated fats can protect your skin - so it's a good idea to apply these before you go outside. Choose moisturisers that contain a high percentage of natural plant oils and butters, such as shea butter, macadamia, jojoba, coconut, avocado and almond oils, which are also effective in healing surface skin lesions.
  • But this makes daily, thorough cleansing of the skin to keep pores clear and free is crucial in winter. For this, I can recommend African soap-based products because, as well as cleansing thoroughly and gently, they also act as a natural skin exfoliator.
  • During the day, it's best to avoid using creams with high water content, and in frosty weather, they are downright forbidden as they can seriously damage the skin. Winter sports enthusiasts should bear this in mind and, of course, they should also remember to protect themselves from the sun.
  • Sun protection is also important in winter, even when the sky is blocked by cloud cover, because the strength of UVA rays, which are responsible for ageing and play a role in skin cancer, are still present. Avoid chemical sunscreen products in winter too.
  • At night, use a product that helps restore the skin's optimal water balance. The products recommended for winter care should be made from natural ingredients and contain essential fatty acids such as linoleic acid, active substances that regenerate the cellular matrix such as ceramides, and soothing vitamins such as stable vitamin C and vitamin E.
  • The condition of problem skin usually improves during the winter months, so it's even more important to cleanse and rebuild the skin so that we can look forward to a healthy spring. Microdermabrasion and natural exfoliation treatments can be beneficial during this period, removing old scars and permanent skin damage.
  • It's also important to hydrate and replenish the lipids in our already stressed hands, which are even more stressed by the cold, so treat them to a rich and nutrient-rich cream at night.
