Acne as a skin symptom
It develops as a result of a type of tissue damage where the hair follicles - the pores in the skin - become clogged with dead skin cells and sebum. Untreated acne in youth, T-zone problems are the cause of acne rosacea later in life, which is much more difficult to treat.
Each hair follicle has a sebaceous gland in it. The secretion produced by the sebaceous gland (the sebum) comes out through the hair follicle to the surface of the skin in healthy skin, where it forms a protective coating on both the skin and the scalp. If the body produces increased amounts of sebum, it can accumulate in the hair follicle together with dead skin cells and solidify there, forming a plug.
Acne typically develops on the face, neck, chest, back and shoulders, as these areas have the most sebaceous glands.
ACNE CAN TAKE THE FOLLOWING FORMS:
- Closed comedos - The opening of the hair follicle is blocked by dead skin cells and sebum, causing the hair follicle to dilate and the normally produced secretions to accumulate.
- Blackheads (open comedones) - These are similar to closed comedones, but they darken in colour and open towards the surface of the skin, allowing their contents to drain out.
- Pimples - Pimples are reddish patches of skin that protrude from the surface of the skin and are caused by inflammation or infection of blocked hair follicles.
- Cysts (hose) - Cysts are bundles of nodules deeper beneath the surface of the skin, filled with secretions that accumulate due to a blockage in the hair follicle.
WHY DOES ACNE DEVELOP ON THE SKIN?
Basically, several factors can lead to the development of acne.
- overproduction of sebum - e.g. due to hormones, stress, chemicals, steroids or even a Demodex infection
- skin and connective tissue infestation caused by the demodex mite due to a skin balance shift
- inadequate exfoliation of dead skin cells, resulting in irritation of the hair follicles,
- or the proliferation of bacteria (e.g. Propionibacterium acnes, )
Other pores in the skin - the sweat glands - are not usually involved in the development of acne.
Acne as a connective tissue problem
The development of acne is rarely just a skin condition. In most cases, it is caused by an internal organ disorder, mainly food intolerance, inflammation of the digestive tract or other chronic inflammatory nodules.
Acne symptoms on the skin are the result of chronic or already acute inflammation of the connective tissue. In rare cases, the infection spreads to deep levels and reaches the muscular system. These cases further complicate treatment.

When making a skin diagnosis, the skin is examined at 6X magnification

- how aggressive the demodex mite population is, i.e. what bacteria, viruses, fungi are present
- is there already an infection?
- if already established, to what extent has the infection damaged the skin?
- is there increased caries?
- is there thickening of connective tissue, scarring of the skin?

Holistic body diagnosis for successful skin renewal
What does the blood count show? Analysis of a full major lab can already go a long way to showing the correlation between the internal body and skin condition. Slightly elevated blood sedimentation may indicate an internal inflammation, even an inflammatory nodule, a slight increase in eosinophil leukocyte count may indicate an allergy, even an increased histamine load, a slight elevation in cholesterol, which is seen in almost all gluten toxicities, may indicate a digestive-metabolic disorder. Slightly elevated bilirubin levels may indicate mechanical constriction of the liver and bile ducts, and slightly elevated liver enzymes may indicate accumulation of toxins and liver overload. Low serum iron levels, especially if there are frequent bloating symptoms, are the best indicator of malabsorption due to gluten load.
