A reaction to foreign substances in the body is not always an allergy. Our skin reacts sensitively to substances that are toxic and harmful to us, which is a perfectly normal defence.

Our skin is our largest organ, our body's first line of defence. Its most important function is to protect the body from external influences - protection from dehydration, temperature, infection and harmful substances. To perform these functions properly, we need to look after it.

Despite the fact that the need for environmental protection and natural materials is becoming more and more popular in our world, we tend to put our needs before our wants. We often succumb to a tempting fragrance, even though we know it is unnatural and harmful to us.

If we use cosmetic products that are chosen by our needs and not our real needs, we can be almost sure that they contain several ingredients that can damage our skin and therefore our health. The average woman, on an average day, applies an average of 300 different chemical toxins to her skin.

It's hard to know if the cosmetic you're holding in your hand is really 100% natural.

Even in cosmetics that are said to be natural, do you usually find some synthetic ingredients?

Why?

• because few manufacturers are able and willing to produce 100% natural cosmetics

• because many manufacturers are not profitable, they compromise and thus do not strive for perfection, - many are mainly trying to comply with regulations that still allow the use of certain hazardous synthetic substances

• because natural and effective ingredients are much more expensive, costing 10X to 20X more

• because in many cases, even with the best of intentions, chemicals are added to the product, for example, most ready-to-use plant extracts contain chemical preservatives

What are the main characteristics of the composition and formulation of pure cosmetics in our view?

• are made from natural ingredients

• their raw materials are either pharmaceutically pure cellular active substances or mainly organic, wild-cultivated plant materials

• contain solvent and pollution-free cold-pressed vegetable oils

• avoid the use of harmful substances, chemicals and synthetics for optimal skin tolerance

• no synthetic colours or fragrances are used

• avoid the use of dead animal materials and oppose animal testing

• no genetically modified ingredients are used

• the satisfactory shelf-life of their products is ensured by plant extracts, distillates, modern germ-free production technology and hygienic packaging

• recyclable and hygienic packaging materials are used

Most companies' marketing efforts are focused on describing what is not in their products, whether it's silicone, parabens, mineral oil, but I, as a conscious consumer, am mainly interested in what's in it and what it does.

This raises the important question: how do we know what is harmful to our skin?

The only effective way to do this is to read carefully the list on the jar or packaging, the INCI Declaration (the official list of ingredients). Unfortunately, this is completely incomprehensible to most of us.
