A szegfűszeg illóolaj legfontosabb hatásai: antimikrobiális, parazita- és vírusellenes, általános és idegrendszeri tonizáló, görcsoldó, gyulladáscsökkentő és helyi érzéstelenítő. Az eugenol erős antiszeptikum és tonizáns. A szegfűszeg illóolaj nem toxikus, közepesen irritáló, nem érzékenyítő, nem fototoxikus. Gyógyszerészi tisztaságú olaj, mely nem tartalmaz vegyszereket, még nyomnyi mennyiségben sem, így belsődleges használatra is alkalmas.

Cinnamon oil is antimicrobial, antiseptic (cinnamaldehyde), anti-parasitic and antiviral, skin flushing, anti-inflammatory, general tonic and stimulates intestinal motility. The most important uses of cinnamon oil are in colds, respiratory infections and mouth inflammations. Cinnamon bark essential oil is non-toxic, moderately irritant, mucous membrane irritant, highly sensitising, non-phototoxic. The strong sensitizing effect of the oil is due to cinnamaldehyde, which is attenuated by limonene and eugenol.
